To all beloved veterans

Who deserve so much more

Than the tiny little blessings that

Our country will bestow.

I thank you for your service,

For your labor and your heart.

For the trials you’ve outsmarted-

That sets you well apart.

I thank you for your moxy,

And for all the ways you try.

And I don’t say this lightly,

But thanks for your preparedness to die

To protect what we take for granted

To protect what we hold dear

To protect both those overseas

And loved ones close and near.

Thank you with everything I have

For defending the red, white, and blue.

I hope that, now, it’s your chance

To reap what’s due to you.
