"The Fire In My Reflection"

I have her long auburn hair

and her porcelain skin.

Some say I have her smile,

And her long, pointed chin.

But I have his rosy, chubby cheeks,

And his chocolate-colored eyes.

I joke I have to trim my facial hair

Because we look so much alike…

I have his peaceful, quiet demeanor,

And his writing style,

But I have her outgoing, friendly nature

And her eagerness to smile.

I have her love for charity.

I have his single-minded devotion.

I have his never-ending desire to learn

And her deep well of emotion.

I’ve been lost for days without them.

Not knowing what to do.

Not knowing who I am anymore

Without them here to see me through.

Wondering how they’ll guide me

When I cannot see their face.

Wondering how voices I cannot hear

Will find a way to grant me grace.

But I understand now that they’ll be with me

In all I say and do.

They’re in the reflection looking back at me

I know this much is true.

They’re in the fiber of my being

The sum of all my parts.

And beating deep within my chest

Is not one, but three loving hearts.

For it took their love to conceive me.

Their unending love got me here.

And it’s their undying love that will see me through

Though they’re no longer near.

And though their lights are extinguished now

Their fires are not gone.

Their flames can’t be extinguished

As long as my fire burns on.
